It’s a small (and sick) world
I don’t always pay that much attention to the 11 o’clock news, usually I’m already asleep but last night a short clip ran about a man killed by a bear he was training. My wife gasped and grabbed the remote and hit rewind – it was not just some guy, it turns out we know him. Stephan Miller was the father of one of my wife’s girl scouts. We had seen him just a day before at the Girl Scouts annual Brownilympics event.
Today there were several articles on the national news websites. I read one on CBS News and then proceeded to the comments. Some people were commenting on various aspects of the story but as I read on the comments got progressively worse. One person said, “he got what he deserved” and another said “too bad the bear didn’t get the owner too.” I couldn’t believe what I was reading, what is wrong with people today? If you disagree with using animals for entertainment that is your right but to feel that the death of a man is justified because he was working with an animal he raised from a cub is beyond comprehension. Someones husband and father is gone. Their lives will never be the same and these sick people some how think that is OK.
Our hearts go out to the Miller family – I can’t imagine suffering your loss.

Wow, I saw that story last night. I can’t believe you knew him. What a tragedy! Some people say the stupidest things!
